Ms. Blatt has been a full-time UCLA SMP faculty member since 1994 and has an extensive background working in large, urban, underperforming schools. Prior to joining UCLA SMP, she served 40 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), having taught all grade levels, and co-created the first magnet school in LAUSD, eventually guiding it to charter status. Ms. Blatt led the magnet school to a model integration of technology and curriculum. She also co-anchored Writing to Learn, an initiative which has been implemented in many schools in LAUSD and throughout Los Angeles County. She was also a faculty coach in the Reading By Nine initiative. Through UCLA SMP, Ms. Blatt has provided training, coaching, and support in management, instructional leadership, reading, language arts, and math to over 300 schools in Los Angeles and other counties throughout the state. Ms. Blatt has led SMP teams as an outside provider for schools in the Immediate Intervention of Underperforming Schools Program (II/USP), High Priority Schools Grant (HPSG), School Assistance and Intervention Team (SAIT), and Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) programs, helping many schools make dramatic turnarounds in student achievement. In addition, Ms. Blatt has been a consultant for Apple Computer and has worked with many school districts across the country integrating technology into the curriculum.
