Mr. Otterness prior to joining the UCLA SMP faculty, was the coordinator of the Electronic Information-Multimedia Magnet High School. Before that, he taught ninth grade pre-algebra, AP calculus, economics, and security operations in the Academy of Finance program, and was the yearbook advisor at the Downtown Business Magnet High School. He received degrees in math and physics from St. Olaf College and has taught at the University of Kansas. Mr. Otterness has been a mathematician/physicist for the U.S. Navy, a senior engineer on the Apollo Project, an instructor in the Miller Math project, an adjunct faculty member with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Math Training Program, and team-taught kindergarten and a K-1-2 combination. He was also a lead instructor with the Summer Business Institute, Edison/USC, and has spoken nationally for the Academy of Finance, CMC, NCTM, CUE, and the California Gifted Association. His technology experience ranges from teaching computers and programming to working on mainframes.
