Bruce C. Corwin
Mr. Corwin is President and CEO of Metropolitan Theatres Corporation, a motion picture theatre circuit of 125 viewing screens in California and Colorado. He presides over the financial and banking operations of Metropolitan Theatres Corporation and Metropolitan Concession Industries which have a combined annual income of over $150,000,000. Mr. Corwin is a member of the Boards of Directors of Metropolitan Provisions and of Resort Theaters of America. He is also a limited partner in Mandalay Sports Enterprises.
Mr. Corwin is involved in numerous motion picture and theatre exhibition related activities. He serves on the executive committee of the National Association of Theatre Owners and is past president and member of the executive committee of the National Association of Theatre Owners of California and Nevada. He is also past president of the Foundation of Motion Picture Pioneers.
Mr. Corwin has a distinguished record of service to his community and has received numerous awards for his involvement. In civic affairs, he served on former Mayor Tom Bradley’s Blue Ribbon Commission of 40 in the City of Los Angeles and as a member of the Board of Directors and chair of volunteers of Rebuild Los Angeles, the Ueberroth Commission. Mr. Corwin was appointed by Mayor Bradley to the Los Angeles Fire Commission and served as President for two years. He led the Commission to encourage the Fire Department to include more women and minorities in their recruitment process.
As the founding president of the Los Angeles Children’s Museum, Mr. Corwin offered the leadership necessary to get the museum off to a successful start. Mr. Corwin also serves on the Executive Board of Will Rogers Hospital and is a member of the California Community Foundation Board of Trustees, where he oversees management of large philanthropic funds.
Much of Mr. Corwin’s community involvement has centered on education issues. After receiving a fellowship from the Coro Foundation, he has served as a board member of this prestigious organization for over 25 years and is past president of the National Board of Governors.
Mr. Corwin served a three-year term as a member of the Wesleyan University Board of Trustees. With his strong commitment to higher education, Mr. Corwin also served on the Boards of Trustees of the UCLA and UCSB Foundations.
Mr. Corwin is past president and current chairman of the Board of Directors of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. During his four years as president, he worked tirelessly to build consensus among a divided congregation of 1,200 families. He presided over a budget of $8,000,000, an endowment, a major gifts campaign and annual giving campaigns. During his tenure, Mr. Corwin also oversaw the accreditation of the temple’s full time day school and the establishment of a Board of Regents for the school.
Mr. Corwin was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Wesleyan University. He is a graduate of the Coro Foundation Fellows Program in public affairs and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Wesleyan University. He is a graduate of Los Angeles High School.
