John Kobara
Having led and managed diverse, complex and innovative organizations for more than thirty years, Mr. Kobara recently took on his newest challenge as Sr. VP of External and Donor Relations at the California Community Foundation (CCF). Prior to joining CCF, he served as the CEO of the CK12 Foundation, a non-profit organization launched in 2006. CK12, which is dedicated to the objective that every K-12 student in the United States and throughout the world deserves access to the highest-quality and lowest-cost textbooks and course materials, aims to enable the educational community to author, enhance, and publish these course materials to suit specific needs and environments.

Mr. Kobara was President/CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and the Inland Empire before joining CCF. He has also served as Senior Vice President in the Online Higher Education Division of Sylvan Learning Systems Inc., President and CEO of OnlineLearning.net, Vice Chancellor of University Relations at UCLA, Executive Director of the UCLA Alumni Association, and Vice President and General Manager of Falcon Cable TV.

In September of 2007, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa presented him with the City of Angels Award for his service to youth and families. Mr. Kobara was the 2007 commencement speaker for the UCLA Department of Sociology.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology from UCLA, Mr. Kobara completed a Coro Foundation Fellowship in Los Angeles. He later earned a Master of Arts degree in Urban Studies from Occidental College and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing from the University of Southern California.
