UCLA School Management Program receives Federal Grant for One Million Dollars to support English Learners

LOS ANGELES — A $1,269,457.00 grant from the U.S. Department of Education has been awarded to the UCLA School Management Program, a team of school site and district educators dedicated since 1992 to partnering with learning communities to ensure high achievement for every student.

This grant awarded to UCLA SMP Northeast Region will fund its EX-CELL (Excellence for Connecticut English Language Learner’s) project in the Connecticut school districts of Ledyard, Montville, New London, and Stratford over the next five years. This project will build the capacity of ‘regular’ content area teachers to deliver instruction in a way that makes content knowledge accessible to ELL students in the mainstream classroom; to create an environment of high expectations and collaboration to support the success of ELL students; and, to establish a system of continuous improvement that will strengthen and sustain the program while contributing to the national research database.

This grant is fully financed by the National Professional Development Program funds, awarded through the Office of English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement for Limited English Proficient Students, U.S. Department of Education.

The UCLA School Management Program is a center of the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
