Discover the Power of Advisories

Discover the Power of Advisories!
is a three-day institute designed for secondary-level educators exploring the use of Advisory programs in Small Learning Communities (SLCs) or looking for strategies that support student retention and outreach at their school sites.

Developed by the Educational Alliance at Brown University, Advisory programs are based on the idea that secondary-level students are more successful when they have at least one adult in the school community who knows them well. Research shows that students who feel supported by school leaders are less likely to have poor attendance or to drop out of school.

Advisory programs strengthen a student’s connections with the school, facilitate both academic achievement and personal growth, and provide the opportunity for students and teachers to create a strong sense of community. Whether your school is thinking of starting an Advisory program or already has one in place, the strategies learned in this institute will guide your school community in addressing these issues and creating a sustainable infrastructure that supports your student population.
