CFG Institutes
This five-day institute is designed to provide K-12 educators with research-based processes that engage them in collaborative work that fosters continuous professional development and improves student academic achievement. Using time-efficient protocols for looking at student work, educators will be brought directly into the conversations that lead to examining instructional practice, planning next steps, and getting positive results with students.
During this interactive institute, participants will learn the strategies they need to create and sustain learning communities at their school and district sites where they can:
- develop shared norms and values;
- engage in reflective dialogue;
- give each other non-judgmental feedback on their work;
- share resources and ideas; and
- plan changes in the school’s organization and culture.
Most educators participate in SMP’s CFG Institute for the purpose of learning how to facilitate CFGs back at their school or district site; however, those wishing to enhance their teaching practice and not lead a CFG are also encourage to attend.

CFG Coaches Clinics
This one-day workshop is the next professional development step for CFG Institute graduates who are currently coaching CFGs or using CFG protocols in other settings throughout their school site and / or district office.
These clinics provide participants with the opportunity to:
- hone their skills in questioning, giving and receiving feedback, and engaging in peer observation;
- facilitate new protocols and enhance confidence with protocols currently in use; and,
- explore practical methods of expanding the impact of the professional learning community beyond the boundaries of the CFG.
Educators who have attended CFG seminars offered by other institutions are also eligible to participate.
