SMP is an approved provider for the Comprehensive School (CSR) Program, a federally-funded program focused on raising student achievement. CSR funds are awarded as competitive incentive grants to schools in order to adopt proven, comprehensive school reform models, based on reliable research and effective practices. The CSR Program is intended to expand the quality and quantity of reform efforts to assist all students as they strive to meet challenging academic standards.
SMP has provided grant-writing support to schools applying to receive competitive CSR funding. SMP’s efforts have resulted in tremendous success for Southern California schools. In 2004, five partner schools were approved to receive CSR grants; in 2005, six additional schools received the much needed funding. The federal monies awarded to these schools through these grants totaled $8.4 million.
SMP has also provided schools with technical assistance as mandated under the grant. As the school’s provider, SMP focuses on revitalizing the school community so that they can redesign themselves around research-based school reform models and adopt a proven, comprehensive reform model targeted at improving student achievement.
