SMP is an approved provider for the High Priority Schools Grant (HPSG) Program, a state-funded program focused on assisting the lowest performing California schools in improving academic performance by offering additional resources targeted to student performance.
The current HPSG program is intended to assist decile 1-5 schools as determined by the January 2005 Base Academic Performance Index (API). In addition, the 2005-06 state budget provided funding for schools in deciles 1 and 2 to become part of a second cohort of HPSG schools. This second cohort had not previously received HPSG funding.
Funding is available for three years, with a possibility of a fourth year for schools meeting or exceeding growth targets. Schools that fail to improve will be subject to further corrective actions.
SMP has provided grant-writing support to schools applying to receive HPSG funding. SMP’s efforts have resulted in tremendous success for Southern California schools. In 2007, twelve partner schools were approved to receive nearly $15.2 million in HPSG grants.
SMP is currently providing technical assistance to numerous HPSG schools to guide their reform efforts, including:
